A Gloomy Day in Christchurch

Rain, rain, and more rain. Here in Christchurch, we are experiencing record rain with over 70mm falling today; the monthly overall average in July is 60mm. Fun fact: in Gainesville, the average rainfall in July is 152mm. The heavy rain has led to flooding in many areas. Lucky for us we only have a zoom discussion on the schedule for today. We went over the requirements for our journals, plans for the next few days, and end of the class celebrations.

Class zoom discussion in the late morning #BeReal

With a free afternoon on a rainy day, many of us decided to stay indoors and work on our journals or relax. Some braced the rain and ventured to the University's bookstore. A few went to QuakeCity to learn about the earthquakes in Canterbury. Others went back to the Riverside Market to enjoy a nice evening with food, laughs, and trivia. Team GoGators! totaled 48 points and came in fifth place.  Below are photos of the flooded campus paths.

Since there is little to share today, I thought it would be nice to recap some favorite top things I have gotten to see so far in New Zealand.

Top Fauna species:
Great Spotted Kiwi/ Roroa
Cave Weta/ Tokoriro
NZ Pigeon/ Kereru

Top Flora species:
Hebe
Kōwhai
White Basket Fungi/ Pukurau

See y'all tomorrow,

Debriana Love
